Rare Umbilical Surgery Performed At Patna Hospital

Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna documented a rare and challenging surgery of umbilical hernia using Subcutaneous Onlay Mesh (SCOM). Dr. PK Jha, the head of the IGIMS surgery department stated that the female patient, 36 was suffering from tremendous pain in her abdomen area for several months. The umbilical hernia was obstructing her abdominal organs. He also briefed that the SCOM method is a cost-effective procedure with a shorter recovery time. 

After the surgery was performed on April 11, the woman was kept under observation for 24 hours duration. On Wednesday, she was declared to be all well and recovering safely. IGIMS director, Dr. BP Sinha and superintendent Dr. M Mandal congratulated the surgical team for their successful endeavor.
